The Turquoise Table

Kristin Schell is a Table Age leader. A Turquoise Table leader to be exact. A couple of years ago she read these words from Francis Schaeffer, “Don’t start with a big program. Start personally and start in your home. I dare you. I dare you in the name of Jesus Christ. Begin by opening your home for community… All you have to do is open your home and begin.”

At first she hesitated, then realized she wanted real relationships with her neighbors. So, she bought a picnic table, painted it turquoise, which is her favorite color, and put the table in the front yard. The day she put the table out she started connecting with her neighbors. People are constantly stopping by to talk, drink coffee, and share life with each other. It has become a meeting place for neighbors and has spurred several others to put a turquoise table in their yard. She says, “The table spurred a front yard revival in our neighborhood.”

What about you? How are you reclaiming relationships around the table?
